The owner of Gold Eagles, David Moreno, did not give me a written estimate. When I asked for one, he said that he would email one to me, which never happened. I asked several times, and the reply was that his wife would sent one out. Based on this information, I agreed to pay 7,000 in labor and was assured that materials would be about $500 for a bathroom remodel. This was to include the framing of a larger shower unit, a fact that I was very insistent about. Later, when the demo was done, I was told that the framing would be another $500. Since the entire bathroom was completely gutted, I swallowed the additional cost. In addition, David is a bit of a shyster. When I was getting ready to pay the balance on his labor, he asked for an additional Lakewood city tax or to be paid in cash. As the work progressed, I could see that things were not being done correctly. David is obviously not a plumber; the drain David installed in the shower did not drain & a plumber had to be called in to replace it. The hot & cold water were reversed & the toilet was not installed to specifications.The toilet was to be turned, and in fact was, but flex was not used in attaching it to the drain & the drain was too far from the wall, a fact that I did not see right away because the toilet wasn't installed until later. Once the tile was added to the shower unit, it turned out that the drain would not drain & a plumber had to be called to remove the incorrect P trap and install the correct drain. I also saw that the bench in the shower was out of square, something that was too late to fix. However, I paid for a nice piece of granite to cover the bench & to cover the error to some degree. When David came to install the granite, he put a coat of sealer on it and let it sit. I asked him if he was going to remove the excess and he said no. After it was dry, the top looked blotchy and the esthetic of the piece was gone. In the meantime, I thought that I could at last use the shower, but found out that the hot & cold water were reversed. I had already paid David for both labor & material. He had given me a $83.64 discount for the three days of cleaning that I did because the Hardy board that he used caused so much dust in the house. The master closet had not been sealed and every piece of clothing in it had to be cleaned along with the rest of the furniture and bedding throughout the house. Do not use this young man; he comes off as honest, but has no business doing a full bathroom remodel.
